Gutters that are clogged or sagging aren't just a curb-appeal problem — they're what's supposed to be moving water off your roof and away from your foundation, and when they stop doing that job, the water finds somewhere else to go. Cleaning, screens, and periodic roof inspection are the cheap side of roof ownership.

None of this prevents every problem a roof can develop, but it closes off the ones caused by neglect rather than weather or age — which, over the life of a roof, is a meaningful share of them.
